I have a natural inclination for networks and collaboration, and I am a doer and I would bring this dedication with me to the board. I am aware of the level of effort involved in being a board member and am willing to commit my time as required.

A focal area I intend to contribute to is “MERL Tech”, as technology enhances our capacity to optimise our processes and efficiency. Technology also gives us the tools to govern the sensitive access we are granted to data and to ensure responsible use thereof.

I believe very strongly that the evaluation profession requires committed volunteers who are willing to roll up their sleeves and do the hard work, if it is to continue to grow from strength to strength. So, the major contribution I intend to bring to SAMEA is being fully committed to its goals and objectives and working hard and smart to see these to fruition.

The opportunity to serve on the SAMEA board will allow me to be part of a community that can influence the professionalisation of the industry but will also allow me to be a voice for the non-profit industry. I believe through my ambition and dedication I can be part of enabling positive change.

I will help SAMEA by sharing my practical knowledge, skills, and experience working as both an economist and M&E specialist with government, multilateral institutions, donors, corporates, and non-profit organisation - with the next generation of evaluators, helping them develop the critical skills for effective and adaptive M&E.

Zulaikha Brey: Deputy Treasurer & Deputy Operations

I am the convenor of the Limpopo Provincial Evaluation Seminar whichlso involves the participation of public and private sector M&E practitioners. Therefore, I bring experience of government, of a province not represented in the SAMEA Board. Consequently, I will bring a provincial focus to the board.

I can contribute as a board member of SAMEA because I have extensive experience in working with a broad range of clients such as the South African government, NGOs, UN agencies, Academia and Foundations. I also understand what it takes to grow emerging evaluators as I have mentored many over the years.

I see SAMEA as the key platform for their growth and development because it is best suited to empower EE’s as future leaders of SAMEA and the evaluation field.

I believe my experience in local government will help different SAMEA chapters to tackle issues of M&E within that sphere to promote better delivery of service.
